The Silly Season: Mermaids in Israel

Old-time newspaper editors used to refer to August as the "silly season," when the slow pace of news tended to mean they filled their pages with the latest flying saucer reports or other fringe stories. You'd think the Middle East has more immediate issues to contend with at the moment, but the Israeli media is paying considerable attention to a spate of mermaid reports. Another account here. She (it?) is reportedly being seen in the sea near the Haifa suburb of Bat Yam, which is offering a reward for proof.

I suspect Silly Season. If they find a real mermaid I will gladly apologize.
